Where can I find paid online research studies?

By the Inflight team · Updated

Paid online research studies are listed on three kinds of sites: academic and behavioural platforms (Prolific), interview marketplaces (Respondent, User Interviews) and product-testing panels (Inflight, UserTesting, Userlytics, Userbrain). Pay is set per study, from a few dollars for a short survey to the most for a scheduled interview. Inflight studies are recorded product tests of 15 to 45 minutes, paid in cash to PayPal.

Who qualifies

Behavioural platforms want a broad population and screen by demographics. Interview marketplaces often want a specific job title or buying role, which is why they pay more. Product-testing panels want ordinary people who have not used the product before; experience counts against you for some studies, so answer screeners honestly.

What a recorded product study on Inflight involves

While a study is recording, a red dot shows and Inflight records your voice, the study tab and what you do in it. It never uses your camera and never records other tabs, windows or apps. You work through two or three tasks on a real product design, say what you think as you go, and answer a few short questions. Every study shows its pay and expected time before you start, and a study done in good faith is paid the amount shown even if you got stuck or gave up. Pay is added to your balance when the study is approved, usually within two working days.

With your separate consent, de-identified recordings also train and evaluate AI models that behave like real users; see get paid to help train AI.

Signing up

Prolific uses a waitlist; Respondent and User Interviews let you browse studies after a profile; Inflight takes a five-minute application that an operator reviews. You can hold accounts on several at once, and most testers do.

Questions people ask next

Are academic studies better paid than product tests?
Not usually per minute. Academic studies are plentiful and short; recorded product tests pay more each but come less often.
Do I need to be in the US?
For Inflight, yes. Prolific and the interview marketplaces accept participants from many countries.
Can I do a study twice?
No. Panels want each person's first reaction, and Inflight tracks which products you have seen so you are not invited to test the same one again.
